The name suggests that the name was likely to have been created by Anglo-Saxons or Danes. According to 2011 census data, the population was 29,405 according to Northumberland County Council. It is located at the border of Northumberland & North Tyneside, with the traffic interchange at Moor Farm Annitsford linking both areas. East Cramlington is located east of the A189 and the B1326 roads that connect the town with Seaton Delaval.

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, on the North Sea coast, is just 3 miles (5km) away. Pitmatic is a dialect and accent that many Pitmatic residents have. This dialect is also known as Geordie.
